The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested suggestions / feedback from the general public and stakeholders on the draft âCable TV Networks (Regulatory) Amendment Bill, 2020â.

The amendments proposed for inclusion in the Cable Television Network Act 1995 (Regulation) increased the amount of the financial penalty and the insertion of a new paragraph regarding penalties for violations of the Program Code and of the advertising code âPunishment for contravening the provisions of this law. For the first offense, with a prison term of up to two years or with a fine of up to ten thousand rupees or both; and for any subsequent offense, to a term of imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to five to fifty thousand rupees.
In the proposed amendment, the central government can specify the names of Doordarshan channels or channels operated by or on behalf of Parliament, which will be compulsorily broadcast by cable operators in their cable service and the mode of reception and retransmission of these. chains. . ”
The proposed amendment deleted the existing provision in subsection (1) of Section 4A, notifications regarding the main band are considered to be limited to the distribution of two Doordarshan terrestrial channels and one state regional language channel. where the cable operator’s network is located.
Another proposed provision includes the inclusion of “broadband internet access” in the right-of-way, the shift of data maintenance from manual to electronic form “Record keeping, inclusion of certification of equipment by BECIL or any other technical auditor, the power to seize the equipment used for the operation of a cable television network and addition of other relevant laws and updating of existing laws.
